ITM Timber merchants is a licensed company that imports timber from all over the world (North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa). It was founded by Thomas Marktl in 1997 and in 2024 the business is happily celebrating their 27th anniversary in Cape Town.
Today, ITM Timber Merchants, has 6 qualified office employees who work with a sophisticated computer system and network that enables us to monitor our stock and sales instantly. We have 8 efficient work men who handle our timber with complete care and attentiveness. Our company – situated near Cape Town- functions from a few warehouses with offices, trucks and two LDV’s as delivery vehicles. We have the ability to deliver to our customers within 24 hours to any destination in the Western Cape.
If you require consulting on solid timber or on our wide range of timber products, we will get a sales man to assist you in this regard. Our sales team is highly qualified and proud of the products that they sell.
We have the ability to sell full containers directly from Cape Town to clients all over South Africa and Namibia, which we include in our sales market. We have an excellent networking capability which has allowed us to create long-term relationships with architects, joiners, carpenters and woodworkers in the Western Cape.
Our long-term strategy is to expand our timber ranges even further into the regional market – to ensure our customers get the same good feel about wood that we have.
We source timber only from companies that adhere to strictly controlled forestry policies and are certified for the utmost business standards. Many of our suppliers are FSC certified, which means that they adhere to these rules and are proud to do so. We are proud and pleased to sell our products knowing that we are not harming large forests.

ITM Timber Merchants are proud to be agents for SunWood Stainer, Pollmeier, Tilly and EGGER. We were the first to introduce Pollmeier products, specifically Beech and BauBuche panels in Cape Town 13 years ago, which is used in furniture and kitchen manufacturing industries. Both produts are very popular and in high demand. We were also the first to bring Stainer SunWood products down to South Africa. We have a major stock list for EGGER boards from Austria which are leaders in the melamine industry.
